This week Dr. Kathryn Orvis and Vicki Stirm hosted sessions for the 4-H Round Up. There were fourteen students (from various counties in Indiana), two chaperones, and one Youth Ambassador. The session was titled “Inside Out Plants,” which included a scavenger hunt in the Jules Janick Horticulture Garden, followed by flower dissections in the classroom.
Kathryn Orvis and Peter Hirst were part of a team that was just awarded the PK-12 Team Engagement Award for their work on the Apple Crunch project. The team developed videos and educational materials for grades 1-3 to teach about apple nutrition and careers, and promote healthy eating habits.
On Saturday, the department hosted 225 youth participants from across Indiana for the 4-H/FFA State Horticulture Career Development Event.
