2018 Gift of Communication Benefit Dinner

On April 7, 2018, the Purdue Student Academy of Audiology (SAA) held the 2nd Annual Gift of Communication Benefit Dinner at the West Lafayette Golf and Country Club. This event was driven by a few facts including that, according to the NIDCD, over 37 million adults in the United States suffer from hearing loss, many of whom have difficulty covering the cost of hearing aids, earmolds, and various audiological services. The 1st Annual Gift of Communication Benefit Dinner was held on April 28, 2017 and this event raised $10,000! While this inaugural event raised money specifically for pediatric patients at the Purdue University Audiology Clinic, SAA executive members decided to widen the scope by including adults in the patient population who we would support with the funds raised. This year’s event included a silent auction supported by many local businesses, as well as a cocktail hour sponsored by the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. During the dinner, a student speaker, faculty speaker, and keynote speaker each addressed the 56 attendees. By the end of the event, just over $5,000 was raised to add to the fund to support our patients in our clinic. The Purdue Student Academy of Audiology executive members: Molly Mochel, Rachel Ackerman, Chloe Haygood, Alex Mai, Hayley Morris, and faculty advisor Melissa Newell are grateful for the supporters of the event who allowed for such success.
