Dr. Jim Amell joined the Department of Public Health at Purdue University in July of 2020 after having spent the last 12 years as a faculty member in Social Work at Colorado State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), respectively. Jim received Masters' Degrees in Public Health (i.e. Maternal and Child Health) and Social Work from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 1997. He received his Ph.D. in Social Welfare (minor Sociology) in July, 2006 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Finally, Jim received post-doctoral training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Gillings School of Global Public Health from 2006-2008 through the W.K. Kellogg Health Scholars Program. Jim has over 14 years’ experience in higher education including teaching, field, mentoring, and research experience in Schools of Public Health (i.e. UNC-Chapel Hill, University of Minnesota Twin Cities) as well in Schools/Departments of Social Work (i.e. UMD, Colorado State, University of Wisconsin-Madison).
