C. Eugene Walker Award for Outstanding Graduate Research

Award Description:

The C. Eugene Walker Outstanding Graduate Student Award is an endowment provided by Dr. C. Eugene Walker who received his Ph.D. in Psychology from Purdue University in January of 1965. Graduate students who receive this award have their names placed on the C. Eugene Walker Award plaque in the Peirce Hall lounge, receive an individual framed certificate, and receive up to $2,000 in the form of reimbursement for the expenses (travel, lodging, food, etc.) of traveling to present one or more research papers at one or more national or regional conferences.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the award, a student must be either:

  • a primary author of one or more posters or papers already accepted for presentation at a meeting (or meetings) that will be held during the remainder of the award year, or
  • a primary author of one or more posters or papers presented since the last Walker Award nomination process, and for which notification of acceptance was not yet available.

Review Process:

The Graduate Committee reviews applicants for the award, placing greatest emphasis on the applicants' accomplishments in research and scholarship. Applications for the award should include:

  • a copy of the material submitted to the conference,
  • a copy of the notification of acceptance of the papers,
  • a current curriculum vitae,
  • a one-page (no longer) nomination statement from the student's faculty advisor. (In particular, the nomination statement should place the research to be presented in the context of the student and/or advisor's previous work).

Application Deadline:

Applications are submitted annually in March. An announcement will be advertised to all graduate students each year providing a specific due date for submissions.
