Clockwise from bottom center: Christine Ladisch (herself a Murphy Award winner), Dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences, with Psychological Sciences Professors Ximena Arriaga (2007-08), Jeffrey Karpicke (2010-11), George Hollich (2012-13), David Rollock (2011-12), and Janice Kelly (2003-04). Not pictured: James Nairne (2000-01) and David Santogrossi (1987-88; deceased).

The Department of Psychological Sciences proudly recognizes its faculty members who have been acknowledged as among the best educators on campus: winners of the Purdue University Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award in honor of Charles B. Murphy (the “Murphy Award”). Less than half a dozen Murphy Award winners are selected each year from among the roughly 1800 faculty members on the West Lafayette campus. Faculty members and students from across the campus comprise the Murphy Award selection committee who review nominees from each College at Purdue. Each College, in turn, selects its nominees from candidates selected by their respective departments. The Department of Psychological Sciences identifies candidates based on annual review of anonymous student nominations and open-ended comments, course evaluations, and faculty review of credentials.

Since 2000, the Department of Psychological Sciences has had more Murphy Award winners than any other department on the West Lafayette campus!

Although recognized for innovation and consistent excellence in classroom teaching, and enduring contributions through leadership at the Department, College, and University levels, each of these colleagues works with students in a variety of ways.
