Dr. Kirkpatrick’s research is focused on evaluating the use of technology to support nursing education, specifically the impact and value of embedded motivational strategies on student learning outcomes. She also studies the impact of various pedagogical approaches on undergraduate learning outcomes and cognitive complexity. Her multimedia programs specifically designed for nurses have received national and international recognition. She is actively engaged in organizational quality improvement. Her research methodology includes both quantitative and qualitative methods. She is a member of the Teaching Academy, named in the Purdue Book of Great Teachers, and is a Fellow in the NLN Academy of Nursing Education.
