Students, faculty and staff are invited to send “candy-grams” to HHS faculty and staff members who inspire them personally or professionally (or both!). There is no cost to send a candy-gram.

HHS Student Ambassadors will deliver the candy-grams throughout the week.

Practicing Mindfulness

This program is free and open to all. Please join us for one of two 20-minute sessions.

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we are doing, and not overly active or overwhelmed by what is going on around us. (Source: mindful.org) Research studies have consistently shown a positive relationship between trait mindfulness and psychological health.

Dr. Sandra Sydnor, associate professor of hospitality and tourism management, will discuss the science behind mindfulness meditation, demonstrate simple exercises participants can practice in their daily lives, and lead a guided meditation. Dr. Sydnor, a practitioner of mindfulness, researches and studies the impact of mindfulness meditation on student engagement and performance as well as its contribution to resilience.

Invisible Families, Invisible Conflicts: Examining The Added Layer Of Work-family Conflict For Employees With LGBTQ Families

At the Lecture, Dr. Katina Sawyer will discuss her Kanter Nominated research which called attention to the overly restricted assumptions about “family” in prior WFC research, and seeks to serve as an impetus for aligning WFC research more fully with the complex realities of modern organizational life.
