Tell us about yourself:

I am a first year MPH student interested in infectious disease epidemiology and infection prevention. During my undergraduate training in public health at Purdue, I conducted research in environmental epidemiology and healthcare communication. I interned at the National Cancer Institute in both the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences and the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics. I worked with local health departments’ vaccination clinics, and served as a public health division volunteer on a medical reserve corps. I also served as the secretary of the Public Health Student Association at Purdue. Outside of public health, I enjoy cooking and traveling with my friends and family.

Your education:

I earned my B.S. in Public Health with distinction from Purdue University.

Your vision:

I have always been interested in diseases and microbiology, but didn’t know quite how to focus my undergraduate studies until I found public health. I loved the fact that public health looks at infectious disease on a community level, rather than individual diagnoses. My career goals are in infectious disease epidemiology and hospital infection prevention. A Master of Public Health degree allows me to gain the knowledge and skills that I will need to succeed in this career path.

Why Purdue:

I earned my B.S. at Purdue in three years, so the ability to finish my B.S. and MPH in four and a half years was very appealing. Additionally, Purdue’s flexibility and degree personalization was exciting for me so that I could tailor my MPH degree to fit my interests within the broad field of public health.

Your goals on the first year of the program:

I am looking forward to completing my practicum experience in the Summer of 2018. I will be getting hands-on training in epidemiology and infection prevention and I am excited to begin applying my classroom knowledge in a career setting.
