Tell us about yourself:

I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, having served in Botswana (2005-2007), doing HIV/AIDS Capacity Building/Community Mobilization. I worked in the Social & Community Development office in the village of Moshupa, ensuring that clients received needed items, such as clothing, food, toiletries, etc. In addition to attending village and district development and HIV/AIDS workshops, ceremonies, and meetings, I assisted an HIV/AIDS support group in receiving a grant to start a vegetable gardening project and helped teachers at an NGO daycare for orphans and vulnerable children. Before and after the Peace Corps, I assisted a Marriage and Family Therapist with her adolescent and family group therapy sessions of adolescents involved in the juvenile court system. I later worked as a School-Based Case Manager, and as a Pharmacy Technician (nationally certified) and a Quality Assurance Inspector at Express Scripts. In my spare time, I enjoy being with family and friends, caring for animals, and educating myself on a wide variety of issues/topics. I am also an identical twin!

Your education:

I received my BA from Purdue University in May 2004. My major was: Law and Society, minors: Psychology, Forensic Science.

Your vision:

From an early age, I had always been interested in health, and had been considering studying public health ever since serving in the Peace Corps.

Why Purdue:

Graduating from Purdue University has become a proud multi-generational family tradition (even though my parents are from the East Coast/Northeast US). When I learned that Purdue had its own MPH program, and realized it was an appropriate time to do so in my life, I thought “Why not?”. I like the structure and versatility of Purdue’s MPH program, with class options coming from a variety of departments across campus.

Your goals on the first year of the program:

Continuing to learn about, and understand, various issues in a public health mindset.
