Center for the Study of Lodging Operations (CFSLO)
The mission of the Center for the Study of Lodging Operations (SFSLO) is to serve the hotel industry and related organizations by providing quality research related to lodging operations of all types. This includes research on hotels, resorts, casino hotels, bed and breakfasts, timeshares, and assisted living facilities.
The CFSLO seeks to advance theoretical and practical knowledge about lodging operations through applied research to deal with industry, firm, and property level issues and challenges. The vison of the CFSLO is to become the leading research and education center for lodging operations and management in the nation.
The CFSLO strives to conduct up-to-date applied research in collaboration with hospitality scholars and corporate partners all over the world. Recent research areas include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Service quality management in the hotel industry
- Hotel financial performance and profitability
- Cost characteristics of lodging operations
- Revenue management practices in the hotel industry
- Identifying hotel employee motivations
- Improving the atmospheric elements of lodging properties
- Hotel franchise system and its applications
- Hotel merger and acquisition (M&A) and its long-term results
- The asset-light strategy in the hotel industry
- Addressing employee turnover in the hotel industry
- Lodging operations in timeshare environments
