Purdue's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management has established itself as a global leader in hospitality management education. Our school continues to lead as we take up the challenges of the 21st century, consistently ranking in the top 10 in the nation and recently earning the #1 spot in a longitudinal study of graduate hospitality and education with the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Education. Hong Soon Kim | PhD Student

Hong Soon Kim
Hong Soon Kim, from Seoul, Korea, research concentration is in strategy and in human resource (HR) for the restaurant industry. Specifically, he examines how HRM is causally related to firm performance within the array of topics of: minimum wage, wage, CEO overconfidence, and CEO origin.

Why did you choose Purdue?

The Purdue HTM Graduate Program is literally the best graduate program. I knew that Purdue HTM provides well-structured graduate program that supports students to develop their research capabilities. I knew that guidance of the faculties at Purdue HTM is incomparable. They have strong professional background and are actively involved with number of research projects. I knew that learning from the best is the only way I can better myself as an academic researcher and as an industry leader.

What is your favorite fact about Purdue?

It's one of the safest campus in the U.S..

Career goal?

To become a researcher/professor in the field of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Where do you spend most of your time on campus?

Marriott Hall. 

What apps, software, or tools can’t you live without?

Stata. I do most of my analytic work with Stata.
