Global Experiences in Sports Medicine - China

Global Experiences in Sports Medicine is a sports medicine-focused program with no prerequisites. This summer program is hosted by Beijing Sport University (BSU). Dr. Larry Leverenz, a Purdue University Professor, serves as Instructor and Resident Director of the program, providing academic and administrative support to students. The objectives of the program are to give students an overview of Traditional Chinese Medicine as it relates to the care of athletes and their injuries and illnesses, to learn basic techniques of Chinese exercise as it might relate to the rehabilitation of athletic injuries, and to interact with BSU students and faculty. Some co-curricular travel is planned to Hangzhou and Shanghai for additional experiences within Chinese culture and society. Housing will be at Beijing Sport University and area hotels. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will each three credits as HK 49000.

Global Perspectives of Health and Wellness - China

Global Perspectives of Health and Wellness is a Maymester program hosted by Beijing Sport University (BSU).  Dr. Darlene Sedlock, HK Associate Professor and Director of the Wastl Human Performance Laboratory, is the Program Leader and Resident Director.  The objectives of the program are to provide students with the contrast between Eastern and Western approaches to health and wellness.  Students attend hands-on classes focused on Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques and various aspects of Chinese culture, engage in Eastern exercise practices, interact with BSU students and faculty, and visit numerous historic and cultural landmarks.  Co-curricular travel to Hangzhou and Shanghai provide additional observational and cultural activities.  There are no prerequisites for this program.  Students will receive three credit hours as HK49000 upon successful completion, which HK students can apply towards fulfilling the Department’s Culture & Diversity competency area.  Students in the APEX program can also apply the credit hours towards fulfilling internship hours.  Application to the program is via course #SA10309 on the Purdue study abroad website.
