Global Perspectives in Sports Medicine

Global Perspectives in Sports Medicine is a Maymester program hosted by Beijing Sport University (BSU). The trip is lead and directed by both HK clinical professor, Dr. Scott Lawrance, and by HK clinical assistant professor, Cassandra Ledman.  Program leaders direct the program on a bi-annual basis.  The objectives of the program is to provide students with an overview of Traditional Chinese Medicine as it relates to health and medicine.  Students will be provided with many opportunities to compare and contrast Eastern and Western approaches.  Students attend hands-on classes focused on Traditional Chinese Medicine and therapy techniques, learn about various aspects of Chinese culture, engage in Eastern exercise practices, interact with BSU students and faculty, and visit numerous historic and cultural landmarks.  Co-curricular travel to Hangzhou and Shanghai provide additional observational and cultural activities.  There are no prerequisites for this program.  Students will receive three credit hours as HK49000 upon successful completion, which HK students can apply towards fulfilling the Department’s Culture & Diversity competency area.  Application to the program is via course #SA10309 on the Purdue study abroad website.
