Lawrence S. Preo Scholarship

The Lawrence S. Preo Scholarship was endowed by a group of Purdue alumni in honor of Dr. Lawrence Preo upon his retirement as Executive Director of the Purdue Alumni Association. A former member of Purdue's football team, he served as director of Purdue’s Division of Recreation Sports from 1984 until he was named alumni association director in 1988. These scholarships recognize his desire to help qualified students become members of the Purdue University family and to serve others as athletic trainers.

This is a need-based scholarship given to 1 or 2 sophomores in the program who have distinguished themselves academically with a minimum GPA of at least a 3.0 for a minimum of 30 credits, and have a demonstrated financial need. The award may be renewed for a second year as long as the student maintains the 3.0 GPA. Selection will be made by the Program Director, the Clinical Education Coordinator, and the Director of Sports Medicine, based on information provided by the Financial Aids Office.

Newell-Combs Scholarship

The Newell-Combs Scholarship will be awarded to Athletic Training students at Purdue University. These scholarships serve as a tribute to William "Pinky" Newell and Dr. Combs. The recipient shall possess the ideals of scholarship, dedication, professionalism, sincerity, loyalty, and citizenship; the ideals Pinky Newell held to be most worthy of an athletic trainer.

The successful candidate will be selected based on the following criteria:

  1. The student shall have distinguished himself or herself academically with a minimum GPA of at least 3.0 for a minimum of 60 credits.
  2. The student shall have performed with distinction in the Purdue University Athletic Training Program clinical experience. This level of performance shall be weighed equally with the academic criteria.
  3. The candidate's desire to pursue athletic training as a career is certainly preferred, but is not a requirement.
  4. The student shall have conducted himself or herself both in and out of the athletic training room and classroom in such a manner so as to be a credit to athletic training, intercollegiate athletics, and Purdue University. This includes the qualities of leadership in serving as an example to their fellow students.

Division of Intercollegiate Athletics Senior Student Scholarship

In recognition of their contribution to the mission of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics by the Athletic Training Students, ICA provides scholarship opportunities for senior AT students. Students can apply to receive this scholarship following completion of their junior year academic and fieldwork requirements. All students will be supplied with application materials by the Program Director.

In order to receive the ICA scholarship, the student must be in good standing (2.75/4.0 GPA for the previous 2 semesters) and clinically engaged in the program. The student must complete an application form and submit a transcript to the Program Director (after grades have been posted and by July 1).
