Doug Wiedman

Doug Wiedman has been the sole bowling instructor for the departments bowling classes since 1993. He has introduced the essentials of the game to an entire generation of Purdue students. The bowling classes are consistently ranked as one of the most popular on campus. Doug's dedication to the sport of bowling and the Department of HK has allowed the course offering for 'PES 115: Bowling' to grow to one of the country's largest college-based bowling instruction programs. He currently teaches ten classes each Fall and Spring semester averaging 280-290 students per semester. Additionally, he contributes his bowling instruction knowledge to physical education majors as part of the instructional team for the 'Target Games' course offering.

Doug was a high school bowling coach (2000-09) and has been the assistant coach for Purdue's nationally ranked intercollegiate bowling team since 2004. He has been the co-lead instructor for the team's 'Youth Bowling Summer Camp" since its inception in 2007. He holds a Silver Level coaching certification from the United States Bowling Congress. "Bowler's Journal International" has recognized Doug as one of the nation's top 100 bowling coaches in its annual poll on two different occasions.

Doug is the author of Bowling: Step to Success (Human Kinetics, 2005) which has sold over 18000 copies. He is currently revising and expanding the book. Human Kinetics expect the new version of Bowling: Steps to Success to be available in the summer of 2015.
