{"id":331,"date":"2016-07-08T14:50:18","date_gmt":"2016-07-08T14:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/hhs\/hk\/Biomechanics-MotorBehavior\/?p=331"},"modified":"2016-08-02T16:00:28","modified_gmt":"2016-08-02T16:00:28","slug":"validation-of-the-wii-balance-board-as-a-device-to-assess-postural-sway-in-sitting-infants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/hhs\/hk\/Biomechanics-MotorBehavior\/validation-of-the-wii-balance-board-as-a-device-to-assess-postural-sway-in-sitting-infants\/","title":{"rendered":"Validation of the Wii Balance Board as a Device to Assess Postural Sway in Sitting Infants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Nintendo Wii Balance Board (WBB) has proven to be a valid alternative to a traditional force plate when assessing standing postural sway in a variety of populations, including children and older adults.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>However, the efficacy of the WBB to capture the dynamics of infants in a sitting posture has not been established.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The ability to sit independently is a major motor milestone that can lead valuable insights into the maturation and health of infants.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Given the unique postural dynamics of sitting infants (e.g., fast sway velocity, light weight, relatively large base of support) it is unclear whether the Wii Balance Board can also be used a valid measure of postural sway for infants. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Therefore, this study is determining the validity of using a WBB as a device to assess postural sway in sitting infants. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Co-PIs<\/strong>: Dr. Laura J.
