Dr. Jean-Louis Thonnard is a world-renowned expert on human grasping. He is currently studying grasping behaviors with astronauts on the International Space Station.
We are wedded to gravity. Our nervous system learns to control our movements inside an ever-present gravity field throughout the motor development process.
Grasping behavior on the ISS will be different since the gravity field vanishes. Dr. Thonnard is trying to understand how this adaptation occurs.
We are thrilled that he visited us and shared his insights on human prehension!
