Reverse Career Fair - February 28th, 2018

We wish to thank the following employers and Center for Professional Selling Industry Partners for participating in our first reverse career fair.  The reverse career fair provided 79 students an experience, not unlike employers have at traditional career fairs.  But instead of students approaching companies to learn more about their respective employment opportunities, employers approached students to learn more about them and their personal brands.   Students enrolled in CSR 200, Professional Development, spent part of the eight-week course, developing their “brand” materials which included an assessment of their strengths and skills, resume, elevator pitch and a visual presentation.  Employers spent a short period of time with students assessing the quality of their elevator pitch, brand materials and overall professional image and presentation.

Purdue CSR student, Madeline Treber, speaks with a recruiter.

The goal of this event was twofold.  The first was to provide a professional setting for students and employers to network, further advancing the opportunity for students to make a connection regarding an internship or full-time employment.  The second was to provide the students with a goal to better convey who they are, what skills and interests they possess to more confidently communicate these to employers during their career search.

While some students approached this event with a bit of trepidation, others found it to be a valuable experience which allowed them to be more creative in communicating who they are to prospective employers.
