LOADING DOCK return to top
The load in door is 10' wide and 10' 3" high. Centered in front of the door is a hydraulic Dock Lift 7' 4" wide and 10' deep.
TRAILER AND BUS PARKING return to top
Parking is available near the loading dock. Parking area is not secured. Due to local fire codes, parking in the loading dock is not permitted during performances. Additional parking can be reserved in a nearby lot if required.

DRESSING ROOMS return to top
There are 2 star dressing rooms and 2 large Chorus dressing rooms available at the Loeb Playhouse. Both Star dressing rooms have private bathrooms with showers, lighted makeup mirrors, and full length mirrors.
The 2 Chorus dressing rooms contain sinks, lighted makeup mirrors, full length mirrors, garment racks, and chairs. Two public access facilities, with showers are shared by these rooms. All dressing rooms are located one floor downstairs from Stage Right.
STAGE SURFACE return to top
The stage floor is wood covered w/ gray battleship linoleum. You may lag into the stage anywhere except the side stage areas.
ELECTRICAL SERVICE return to top
One company switch for touring show power is located stage right. There is another located in the Paint Shop stage left. They are rated as follows:
Stage Right Company Panel: 400 amps 3 phase 4 wire
Paint Shop Company Panel: 400 Amps 3 phase 4 wire
Bus Power: Loeb Playhouse has no accommodations for shore power.
MAIN CURTAIN AND SOFT GOODS return to top
The color of the Main Traveler and Main Guillotine Curtains is Burgundy. Guillotine is motor driven but single speed. Main traveler is hand operated. A full set of black masking (5 pair of legs and 5 borders), a black scrim, a white scrim, and a white cyclorama are available for use.
ORCHESTRA PIT return to top
The orchestra pit travels from the stage down two floors. It can be programmed to a specific stopping depth. There are two entrances into the pit. One is at the basement level (21' 10"), and the other immediately below stage level (10").
Fire code prevents seating patrons in the orchestra pit.
RIGGING return to top
FOH RIGGING: Height to steel is 41'. Two rigging points exist above the orchestra pit. These points are rated at 2000 lbs. each. One cable pick point is also available.
STAGE HOUSE: Height To Steel is 65' 9". Points inside the stage house are suspended from the grid on in-house provided 3’ sections of 4" dia. schedule 80 pipe.
You may hang truss, scenery, drops, etc. from our motor controlled counterweight (3000 lbs.) line sets and counterweight battens (1500 lbs.). A line set schedule is included.
HOUSE SOUND return to top
Clusters of Meyer UPA-1 configured per show rider. Detailed information regarding, consoles, processing, recording equipment, etc. provided upon request.
FRONT OF HOUSE MIX POSITION return to top
A mixing position was installed 56'" from the front of the stage. The mix position is elevated 9". To accommodate touring companies, 9" hooks are located along the stage right wall of the auditorium. These hooks are used to suspend temporary Mic "snakes" from the stage to the mix position, removing the need to tape them to the floor which is in violation of local fire code. The length of the pull is 180' to DSR.
HOUSE LIGHTING DESCRIPTION return to top
Lighting Control: The stage lighting is controlled by a Strand Light Pallet Live. It is configured for 2048 dimmers on 3000 channels of DMX control.
There are 500 2.4k CD80 dimmers at Loeb Playhouse all are hard wired. Please see floor plan for location.
Fixture Inventory: Available upon request. We carry the typical theatrical array of fixtures, including Fresnel, Ellipsoidal, Far cyc units and strip lights.
House Lights: The House Light dimming is controlled from the stage managers panel DSR or the control booth at the back of the main floor.
Follow Spots: There are two xenon short throw follow spots. Note: Spot locations are pre-wired with intercom.
Cyc Pit: The strips for the house cyc are located in a 3' deep covered pit. This pit is 4’ 4" wide, 40' across the stage, 31' upstage of the proscenium. The cover must be removed to use the cyc strips. Please note its location on floor plan.
INTERCOM, PROGRAM, & PAGING SYSTEMS return to top
Intercom: A Clear Com system w/ redundant power supplies is hardwired to all commonly used locations (spot booths, Stage Manager, etc.). Base stations capable of addressing both channels are located in the director’s booth (rear main floor) and the Stage Managers panel (down stage right). Wireless Clear Com (3 headsets) is also available upon request. In the event that you require additional stations please inform us in advance and they will be wired and ready for your arrival.
Program: Program is routed via a 70V system to all commonly used areas (dressing rooms, green room, stage managers panel, director’s booth, lobbies, etc.). All areas have independent volume controls. Program system is accessed by feeding the house sound system or may be fed separately is desired.
Cast paging: "All Calls" may be given from the director’s booth or the Stage Managers desk. The system defeats the volume pots in dressing rooms / green room to avoid missed cues. The system is only heard in non public areas.
All the buildings on the campus of Purdue University are non-smoking. The Loeb Playhouse is a non-smoking facility.
Due to local fire code, at no time can any object larger than a mic stand be underneath the fire curtain. Please note its location on the enclosed drawing.
USE OF OPEN FLAME, FIREWORKS, & PYRO
The use of any form of combustion/flame during a performance is subject to approval by the Purdue Dept. of Safety and Security. Please contact us in advance so that prior approval can be obtained.
USE OF FLY SYSTEMS
The House Chief Carpenter will at all times be charged with the safe running of the counterweighted and winched systems. If a production element is deemed unfit for hanging or an intended application is deemed unsafe, the Loeb Playhouse reserves the right to suspend use of the fly systems until the matter of safety can be resolved.
Fly systems will only be operated by House Flymen or qualified touring personnel.
Minimum Crew Call: At all times during the set, rehearsal, run and strike of a production, a minimum house crew will be present. A minimum house crew consists of:
- One House Carpenter
- One House Electrician
- One House Sound Tech.
- One or More Projectionists as needed*
*One House Technician will be present in spotlight booth if occupied.
Breaks & Meals: Hall of Music Productions does have work break and meal break policies. Contact the Technical Director or your assigned Event Production manager for more information.
KEYS AND BUILDING ACCESS
The Loeb Playhouse does not issue keys to visiting programs or personnel. During extended or unusual hours, a house staff member will be assigned to provide access to needed areas.
AUDIENCE SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Loeb Playhouse is required by law to make patrons aware of life threatening conditions that may exist. In the event of life threatening weather conditions or other serious threats to public health, the house staff is prepared to make these announcements.
The Purdue Police Department provides security for backstage and audience entrances. Security inside the hall is provided by in house ushers. "T-Shirt" security for celebrity performances is provided by the sponsor and must by coordinated with the House Manager.
