Global Ambassador: Thomas Fischer

Thomas graduated from Purdue with a master's in Engineering Technology. Thomas worked with a hybrid camera chip that can be used for making pictures as well as harvesting solar energy. This type of camera chip can be used to recharge the battery of a wireless device when the camera is not in use.

Ambassador Q & A (Questions and Answers)

Why did you choose Purdue?

I first came to Purdue as an exchange student while I was in my last semester as an undergraduate student. My advising professor told me about the opportunity to do my graduate studies at Purdue. I applied to the Graduate School and was accepted. I work now for my advising professor as a research assistant while pursuing a Master’s degree.

What is your favorite fact about Purdue?

Purdue University is a well-known institution with students and faculty from all around the world.

Career goal?

Working in an international environment.

If you have free time, how do you choose to spend it?

I enjoy meeting my friends in the Karate Club.

What’s your workspace setup like?

I use a desktop computer with a dual monitor setup. Breadboards and the Electronics Explorer Board from Digilent allow me to prototype and investigate electronic circuits while Matlab helps me with the calculations.

Besides your phone and computer, what gadget can’t you live without and why?

Small key chain flashlight. Testing photo diodes or reading the captions on the PCB in the work bench becomes so much easier.

What’s your best time-saving shortcut or life hack?

Get up early. It's that simple!
