Global Ambassador: Anda Hirceaga

Anda graduated from Purdue with a PhD in Communication with a focus on public relations and health communication. Originally from Timisoara, Romania, she moved to Canada at age 7. During her time at Purdue, Anda was interested in communication in health contexts. This included health campaigns, interventions, doctor-patient communication, patients’ trust and satisfaction, and doctor shopping.

Aside from her primary studies, Anda loves languages. She speaks English, French, Romanian, Italian and Spanish and Danish. Anda completed her undergraduate degree in Canada, her master’s in Switzerland, with a semester abroad in Singapore and went on an exchange in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Why did you choose Purdue?

The teaching opportunities really stood out to me, as well as the funding for graduate students and travel subsidies.

What is your favorite fact about Purdue?

The block "P" sculpture on campus designed to symbolize the importance of lifelong learning and self-improvement.

Career goal?

I want to teach and stay in university for the rest of my life.

Where do you spend most of your time on campus?

In my office (BRNG) or studying in a café.

What apps, software, or tools can’t you live without?

I use GoogleDrive to organize all my work and Mendeley as a reference manager daily. I love my student membership to Spotify so I can listen to music at any time.

What’s your workspace setup?

I usually work in a coffee shop with my laptop, books, headphones and a coffee or a chai.

If you have free time, how do you choose to spend it?

If I have a free weekend, visit my parents in Canada. In the fall and spring I go scuba diving.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

"Teachers open the door. You enter by yourself."
