Welcome to Graduate Student Appreciation Week

 

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb proclaimed this week Graduate-Professional Student Appreciation Week in the State of Indiana. Read the proclamation here.

While we appreciate our graduate students all year long, Graduate Student Appreciation Week is a special week to celebrate the contributions, impact and value of graduate students at Purdue. This week we highlight a few happenings that graduate students might enjoy as well as a few special giveaways!

Register to Win

Ready to unwind? How about a massage on us? We will be giving away three gift certificates for massages at the CoRec. If you plan to be on campus over the next year and would use a massage gift certificate, register to win one here. Registration closes at 5 pm on April 8, 2021.  You may register only one time. You must be a current graduate student on the West Lafayette campus. All Protect Purdue requirements apply. The gift certificates will expire on 2/24/22. Winners will receive an email notification.

Monday, April 5

Welcome Spring Plant Giveaway! The first 30 graduate students at the Purdue Graduate Student Center and the first 50 students at Young Hall, Room 170 at the times below will receive a 2” potted plant to brighten up your space! Be ready to show your PUID.

  • 8 am – 5 pm: Purdue Graduate Student Center
  • 10:30 am – noon: Young Hall, Room 170

Latino Cultural Center Graduate Student Social: Come and pick up your appreciation packet (which includes instant coffee and a snack) from the LCC 12pm to 4pm.


Tuesday, April 6

Welcome Spring Plant Giveaway! The first 30 graduate students at Purdue Graduate Student Center 8 am – 5 pm will receive a 2” potted plant to brighten up your space! Be ready to show your PUID.

Office of Graduate Diversity Initiatives: OGDI is hosting Sweet Treat Tuesday. Graduate students can stop by YONG B-68 and pick up a candy bar from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Using Data to Tell a Story Workshop: 1-2 pm. This interactive workshop will present ideas on how to use your data to tell a captivating story that will engage and persuade your audience. The latest research will be examined and participants will have the opportunity to practice the techniques in the workshop. Sleeping for Success Workshop: 3-4 pm. Not getting a good night’s rest? Built to help participants better understand the role of sleep, this presentation equips listeners with powerful sleep tips and knowledge to help them make the most of a good night’s sleep. Small Changes, Big Impacts Workshop: 11:00 am -12:00 pm.  Always wanted to make an Impact? Small changes in the right direction can create big differences. Inspired by the Steps to Leaps Impact pillar, Lakshmy Mohandas, a graduate student, shares her personal impact story. In this workshop, she will talk about the disruption to the traditional teaching model brought about by COVID and how she and her co-instructors adopted a unique and innovative teaching approach to ensure students receive a seamless learning experience. https://gspd.gosignmeup.com/public/Course/browse?courseid=3318 

Machine Learning: Explainable AI Workshop: 1:30-3:00 pm. Machine Learning is being widely applied across all aspects of our lives, but it is often hard to explain why a machine learning system arrived at a specific decision.
