Current Research Interests:

Studying plant host-viral interactions to reduce losses of small grain cereal crops due to viral diseases (primarily Barley and Cereal Yellow Dwarf Viruses).

Characterizing the molecular, genetic and cellular mechanisms of YDV disease resistance genes found in wheat.

Development of oat DNA markers such as SSR and DArT markers.

Identification of molecular markers and expression QTLS linked to virus resistance in wheat and oat.

Utilization of a recently developed multi-plex PCR 8-virus detection assay to study the incidence and epidemiology of wheat viruses.

Studying how viral disease alters plant metabolism.
