Graduate School Establishes $1,000 Scholarship for Graduate Students with Children

West Lafayette residential Purdue graduate students who are enrolled in a Purdue University student insurance plan including children will soon receive an email from the Purdue University Student Insurance Office regarding their eligibility to be considered for a $1,000 scholarship. This scholarship was made possible through the generosity of two anonymous donors.

“Since student insurance information is considered privileged, in order for students to be eligible for this scholarship, they must complete the authorization form that is available in electronic format on their patient portal. A link to this form will be provided in the email that students receive from the Purdue University Student Insurance Office,” shared Jenny Mattson, the Graduate School’s Operations Administrator for Fellowships, Funding, and Grad Student Appointments, “The only information that will be shared is the student’s name, PUID, and the email address associated with their insurance account.” If a student is selected for this award, they will be contacted by Jenny Mattson, and the scholarship will be disbursed through their MyPurdue Account during the Fall 2022 semester.

Graduate Student parents who are seeking connection and community are also encouraged to join the Graduate Parent Support Network (GPSn), which is actively recruiting new members. GPSn is a student-led organization committed to supporting Purdue's graduate students with families. The group helps graduate students with children navigate school-related issues, identify helpful resources, and provides a platform for students to express their concerns and share their experiences. Group members often host “stuff swaps” and take day trips to local attractions, like the Columbian Park Zoo.

If you are a graduate student interested in joining a family-friendly community of graduate student parents that are dedicated to improving the Purdue Graduate experience, please contact gpsn@purdue.edu for more information.
