George Washington Carver Fellowship

Purdue University President Emeritus, Martin C. Jischke, initiated the George Washington Carver Fellowship
in honor of this great African American educator, researcher, and innovator. The George Washington Carver Doctoral Fellowship is awarded annually to encourage students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Predominately Black Institutions (PBI), Hispanic-serving institutions (HSI), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU), or Native American Serving, Non-Tribal Institutions (NASNTI), who have demonstrated superior academic achievements and scholarly abilities, to attend Purdue University. Recipients of this fellowship are doctoral-seeking students in PhD granting, residential programs who aspire to a career as a professor in higher education. This fellowship is a five-year award package to the student with all five years supported by the Graduate School. 

 Requirement for Student Nominees:
  • Be a graduate of an HBCU, PBI, HSI, NASNTI, or have attended a TCU for at least two years.
  • Be a graduate of an accredited U.S. high school.
  • Aspire to a career as a professor in higher education.
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to contribute to a campus community of scholars where diverse perspectives, abilities, backgrounds, and experiences are welcomed, respected, and valued.
  • Demonstrate superior academic achievements and scholarly abilities.

David M. Knox Fellowship 

Departments nominate Masters-seeking students directly through this form: Nomination Form

The David M. Knox Fellowship is awarded annually to encourage Masters-seeking students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Predominately Black Institutions (PBI), Hispanic-serving institutions (HSI), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU), or Native American Serving, Non-Tribal Institutions (NASNTI), who have demonstrated superior academic achievements and scholarly abilities, to attend Purdue University. The Knox Fellowship commits a two-year award package to Masters-seeking students in residential programs, which includes one year of stipend support from the Graduate School and one additional year of funding support from the graduate program. Tuition and fee coverage and a medical insurance supplement are also provided.

 Requirement for Student Nominees:
  • Be accepted to a residential master's thesis program
  • Be a graduate of an HBCU, PBI, HSI, NASNTI, or have attended a TCU for at least two years.
  • Be a graduate of an accredited U.S. high school.
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to contribute to a campus community of scholars where diverse
    perspectives, abilities, backgrounds, and experiences are welcomed, respected, and valued.
  • Demonstrate superior academic achievements and scholarly abilities.
  • Be seeking a thesis degree master’s program.

Puskas Memorial Fellowship

Departments nominate prospective masters or PhD students directly through this form: Nomination Form 

The Puskas Memorial Fellowship was established in April 1993 with a bequest from the estate of Nick Puskas. Its income supports fellowships for graduate students.  The Puskas Memorial Fellowship is awarded to master's or doctoral-seeking students who have an affiliation with Romania.  The tenure of the Puskas Memorial Fellowship is one year with the possibility of renewal and provides a stipend/salary, payment of tuition, payment of student fees, and a medical insurance benefit.

 Requirement for Student Nominees:
  • Maintain residency in Romania 
  • (or) Were educated in Romania
  • (or) Have participated in study or research in Romania
  • (or) Are conducting formal outreach and engagement with Romania
  • (or) Have some other significant relationship with Romania as determined by the Dean of the Graduate School
  • Be admitted for the fall or spring semester of the upcoming academic year
