Chenn Zhou is the NIPSCO Distinguished Professor of Engineering Simulation, the Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University Northwest (PNW), and Professor by Courtesy at Purdue University West Lafayette. She is the founding Director of the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) and the Steel Manufacturing Simulation and Visualization Consortium, established. Dr. Zhou received her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, USA in 1991 and joined PNW in 1994.

Dr. Zhou has more than 38 years of experience in the areas of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), combustion, energy, and multiphase reacting flows. She is on the cutting edge in the integration of computer simulation and virtual reality visualization for solving real world problems. Dr. Zhou has conducted a large number of funded research projects totaling over $25 million and collaborated with over 140 organizations. Dr. Zhou has more than 430 technical papers and abstracts and five copyrighted CFD codes.

Professor Zhou has received numerous awards including the 2004 R&D 100, the 2005 American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Medal, the 2010 J. Keith Brimacombe Memorial Lecture by Association of Iron and Steel Technology (AIST), and the 2017 AIST Hunt-Kelly Outstanding Paper Award – First Place. Professor Zhou received the awards of PNW Outstanding Faculty in Teaching (1999), Research (1999), Sponsored Research (2006), and Engagement (2017). Dr. Zhou has been a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers since 2003.
