Photography Competition

Call for submission open now until September 20, 2017

This year, the ESE Symposium is holding a photography contest in which the top two entries will be awarded cash prizes, with the winner’s photograph being showcased at the Symposium itself. The entries will be judged on how well the photographs represent and convey the Symposium theme as described on our website as well as aesthetic quality.

  1. Eligibility: This contest is open only to Graduate and Undergraduate Students officially enrolled at Purdue University.  The contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  2. Contest Period: Photos will be accepted online starting on September 1st and ending September 20th.
  3. How to Enter: Photos must be uploaded as a file using the online form provided at: The photo must fulfill all contest requirements, as specified, to be eligible to win a prize. No sort of post editing is allowed in the contest. Photos that are not related or do not adhere to the rules or specifications may be disqualified at the sole discretion of ESE Symposium. Contestants may upload only once and provide the information requested.
  4. Prizes: 1st place winner of the contest will receive $100 and 2nd place winner of the contest will receive $50. The prize is nontransferable. No substitution of prize or transfer/assignment of prize to others by winners is permitted. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission for ESE Symposium committee to use Winners’ name and entry for purposes of advertising and trade without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.
  5. Winner Selection and Notification: Winners will be selected by the ESE Symposium committee in consultation with professional photographers. Winners will be notified by email within two (2) days before the Symposium following selection of Winners. ESE Symposium Committee shall have no liability for Winners’ failure to receive notices due to spam, junk e-mail or other security settings or for Winners’ provision of incorrect or otherwise non-functioning contact information. Receipt by Winner of the prize offered in this contest is conditioned upon compliance with any and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. ANY VIOLATION OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES BY WINNERS (AT ESE Symposium’s SOLE DISCRETION) WILL RESULT IN WINNERS’ DISQUALIFICATION, AND ALL PRIVILEGES AS WINNER WILL BE IMMEDIATELY TERMINATED.
  6. Rights Granted by Contestants: By entering this contest, contestants understand and agree that ESE Symposium Committee or anyone acting on behalf of ESE Symposium Committee shall have the right, where permitted by law, to print, publish, broadcast, distribute, and use in any media now known or hereafter developed, in perpetuity and throughout the World without any further compensation, notice, review, or consent. By entering this content, contestants represent and warrant that their photo is an original work of authorship, and does not violate any third party’s proprietary or intellectual property rights. If their entry infringes upon the intellectual property right of another, contestants will be disqualified at the sole discretion of ESE Symposium. If the content of their entry is claimed to constitute infringement of any proprietary or intellectual proprietary rights of any third party, contestants shall, at their sole expense, defend or settle against such claims.
  7. Agreement to Rules: By participating, contestants agree to be fully unconditionally bound by these Rules. In addition, contestants agree to accept the decisions of ESE Symposium committee as final and binding as it relates to the content of this contest.

Information Release

By submitting a poster/presentation, the applicant authorizes the Ecological Sciences and Engineering Interdisciplinary Graduate Program to share all information related to the poster/presentation (or subsequent award), including a photo, on the internet, in press releases, and in relevant program literature.
