ESE Student Receives the 2019 NASA Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology (FINESST)
Alka Tiwari received the 2019 NASA Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology (FINESST) fellowship award to pursue her research work. The FINESST fellowship is a highly competitive program, and Alka is the only recipient this year from Purdue University. ESE Faculty Member Featured by Purdue University
Dr. Bill Hutzel was featured by Purdue University for his Biowall research project. "The Biowall is an eco-friendly air filtration system that can be used in residential buildings to improve air quality," said Bill Hutzel, a professor of mechanical engineering technology in Purdue's Polytecnic Institute, who leads the research team. Dr. Sylvie Brouder was featured by Purdue University as her research aligns with Purdue's Giant Leaps celebration, acknowledging the university’s global advancements made toward a sustainable economy and planet as part of Purdue’s 150th anniversary. Dr. Brouder’s goal is to assist farmers in getting the most out of their fields while reducing the potential for environmental harm. Her work focuses on carbon and nitrogen cycling in soil, carbon sequestration, greenhouse gas emissions and water quality impacts of farming. ESE Students Collaborate on Ideas Festival
ESE students collaborate with other campus groups to create an Ideas Festival for Purdue’s Giant Leaps Sesquicentennial Celebration. Their ESE Symposium will be a part of this Ideas Festival, and will include Katharine Hayhoe, a world-renowned climate communicator, as a keynote speaker, as well as other workshops, panels, and events to explore and promote various ways to communicate science through both academia and art. ESE Student Wins First Place at 2018 ASA Competition
Congratulations to Paula Welikhe, who won 1st place at the 2018 Agronomy Society of America (ASA) Nutrients and Environmental Quality Community oral presentation competition! Her talk was on "Development and Evaluation of Phosphorus Sorption Capacity - Based Environmental Indices." You can read the abstract here.
ESE Student Achievement Award Winners
Ehsan Vahidi Movassagh received ESE’s 2018 Outstanding Graduate Student in Research Award. Corey Lacey received ESE’s 2018 Outstanding Graduate Student in Teaching Award. Congratulations to Ehsan and Corey! They were recognized at ESE’s Spring Celebration in April 2018. They were honored with a plaque and a monetary award, and shared some of their research and teaching experiences with the ESE community. Dr. Marisol Sepúlveda is the recipient of the 2018 Agricultural Research Award. The award presentation, along with Dr. Sepúlveda’s seminar on “My Research Career as an Environmental Toxicologist" was held Friday, October 12, at 3:00 p.m. in PFEN 241.

ESE Students Win Andrews and Blosser Environmental Grant
Natalie Chin, Younjeong Choi, Zhenong Jin, Ashley Kissick, Rebecca Logsdon, Amanda Montgomery, and Saerom Park recevied the Andrews and Blosser Environmental Grant. The grand was established in honor of Dr. Frederick N. Andrews and Dr. Russell O. Blosser to support research focused on improving the world environment.
ESE Student Wins of the Most Outstanding Interdisciplinary Project Award
Caitlin Grady won the Most Outstanding Interdisciplinary Project Award (MOIPA) in spring 2013. The MOIPA is a financial award given to a recipient and runner-up whose research is deemed, by a faculty panel, to be particularly interdisciplinary. Applicants must be enrolled in one of Purdue University's Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs to qualify.

ESE Student Wins Gerald O. Mott Meritorious Graduate Student Award in Crop Science
Jennifer Burks is the winner of the Gerald O. Mott Meritorious Graduate Student Award in Crop Science. The award recognizes top-notch graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in crop science disciplines. Departments select students based on academic achievements, research and teaching contributions, leadership accomplishments, service activities, and personal accomplishments. The award is offered by the Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) and recipients receive a certificate and are recognized in the CSA News.
