Research Title:

Computer engineering/ The intelligent runtime system in heterogeneous architectures

Research Description:

My research involves in the development of software runtime system in heterogeneous architectures. High performance and energy-efficiency are two critical issues in the development of software. The objective of my research is to carry out one software runtime system to achieve dynamic and automatic optimization of software running in heterogeneous architectures. This runtime system can be applied for optimization of performance and energy in software applications such as network security, database, image processing, scientific computing, etc.

About Me:

I began the heterogeneous architecture research at National Tsing Hua University at Taiwan, and I worked out parallel dimension reduction algorithms on the GPU. When I was a research assistant in Academia Sinica, at Taiwan. I started to involve in research about energy issues. Since my previous research in the optimization of power consumption in storage systems and heterogeneous architectures, I determine to extend my previous research to programming languages and runtime systems. I am working with Prof. Bagchi and Prof. Eigenmann at ECE and continue to take my efforts in the improvement of performance, energy, and security of research in programming languages and computer systems. To work with students coming from labs of Prof. Bagchi and Prof. Eigenmann gives me an opportunity to contact with interdisciplinary perspectives from dependable systems and programming languages. This collaboration helps me to carry out innovative ideas and gain more advises in research. I hope the system I am working on can really help the software industry and more people and improve the performance and energy efficiency of current software running on heterogeneous architectures in mobile phones, desktop computers, and servers, etc.
