Research Title:

Fluid Flow in a Disengaged Multi-Disk Clutch

Research Description:

My research focuses on understanding how the design parameters such as the spacing between plates in the clutch, friction material, grooves in the frictional materials or plates and operating parameters such as rotational speed of the plates and their relative motion, flow rates of the lubrication oil affect the flow in the gap between the plates, where most of the drag torque is generated. Drag torque in a disengaged clutch in a transmission or driveline can account for up to 10% in specific fuel consumption. Thus, it is of interest to reduce drag torque.

About Me:

I completed my undergraduate studies at COEP (College of Engineering Pune, India) in Mechanical Engineering. Before pursuing my graduate studies in AAE department of Purdue University, I worked for two years as a Structural Analysis Engineer in Cummins Research and Technology, India. I completed my M.S. in 2013 and presently working towards my PhD.

I am a huge fan of NFL. I support Indianapolis Colts. I make sure that every season I attend atleast two home games. I love playing Badminton and presently learning to play Tennis. I have an ivory colored Labrador Retriever. He is three years old. I love to take him for walks, and play Frisbee with him.
