Research Title:

Understanding Plant Response to Stress Using Gene Model Quality Evaluation and Transcriptome Analysis

Research Description:

My research is focused on understanding plant response to different stress conditions. I am analyzing transcriptome data of plants such as Physcomitrella patens, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and Ambrosia trifida to decipher how plants react to stress situations such as migration from aquatic environment to terrestrial environment, and herbicides.

About Me:

I was born, brought up and did my schooling in the South Indian city of Chennai. I proceeded to do my Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology with distinction from SASTRA University, India. My undergraduate thesis was on the study of Mycobacteria, in particular, the identification of mutations in the pncA gene of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It was during my undergraduate thesis that I got interested in sequence analysis and bioinformatics in general. I then moved to the United States of America to do my Master’s degree in Bioinformatics from Indiana University, Bloomington. I graduated from IUB in 2011 and am currently pursuing my doctoral studies in Purdue University, West Lafayette. I interned last summer in Monsanto, St. Louis where I worked on big data analysis and machine learning.
