Graduate School Excellence in Teaching Award

The Graduate School will award three Graduate Teaching Assistants with the Graduate School Excellence in Teaching Award. One nomination is welcome from each college. Each college may decide how it wants to choose its nominee. Nominations must be submitted by the college assistant/associate dean or other appropriate person, electronically and using the application format attached, to Lori Miller, Executive Assistant ( by Friday, March 22, 2024. Eligibility requirements for a Graduate School Excellence in Teaching Award are the following:

  • Applicants must be registered as full-time graduate students (enrolled for eight credits or more) during the Spring 2024 semester.
  • Applicants must have served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for at least two sessions during their Purdue graduate program.
  • Previous recipients of the Graduate School Excellence in Teaching Award are not eligible.  (See attachment for a list of past recipients.)

The award, which is considered the highest honor given to Purdue teaching assistants, is accompanied by a $1000 prize.

Note that the 2024 Graduate School Excellence in Teaching Award program is being conducted independently from other Teaching Academy awards and the Center for Instructional Excellence.  It is not a requirement that eligibility is limited to graduate students who have received the Teaching Academy Graduate Teaching Award.
