Irma Adyatni

Irma is a masters student in Food Science. She is originally from Banjarmasin, the capital city of South Kalimantan (aka Borneo) in Indonesia.

Why did you choose Purdue?

My undergraduate education is in Agricultural Engineering, as Purdue hold the #1 spot for Agricultural & Biological Engineering in U.S. for 7 years in a row, I obviously heard much about Purdue. However, I'm now pursuing Master's Degree in Food Science, my first consideration of choosing Purdue is because of Food Science at Purdue are not only thriving in Food Processing, but also Food Microbiology and Chemistry. Also, Dr. Brian Farkas is a very charismatic and engaging person when I emailed him to inquire more about Purdue as my future 'home'.

What is your favorite fact about Purdue?

Its color scheme: Black & Gold; it's just gorgeous together. Also 1869 tap room, I only visited it once when its functioned as tap room, but always study there when I need inspiration.

Career goal?

Working with my government to tackle food insecurity in Indonesia.

Where do you spend most of your time on campus?

Other than my Lab, I usually write at 1869 tap room or AGAD building.

What apps, software, or tools can’t you live without?

Spotify, R, Office.

What’s your workspace setup?

My office is bare; I don't like clutter! Mostly filled with current reference books I need (now it's about 9). I have a red Bodum water heater that's mostly being used by my office mates. My Mac and Beats accompany me wherever I go.

If you have free time, how do you choose to spend it?

Watching Opera and Classical Music Concert; My favorite singer is Jonas Kauffman and my favorite composer is Riccardo Muti!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

My mom's: Do your best, hard work won't betray you (It sounds better in my native regional language, I swear)!

Fill in the blank with a person (famous or otherwise): I’d love to see _________ answer these same questions.

Jonas Kaufmann, Riccardo Muti and Anna Netrebko.

What's your favorite to-do list manager?

An aqua leather journal I got from my sister. I feel more grounded when writing everything with pen and paper.
