Alumni Story - Kyle Frey (M '10)

Kyle Frey

For Kyle Frey (M ’10), the decision to attend Purdue for his education was an obvious choice. He knew he wanted a school that would provide three things:  endless opportunities in and out of the classroom, an amazing education respected by top employers, and of course the excitement of Big Ten sports.

Frey received the Purdue Marquis Scholarship, which to him was tremendously rewarding. “I greatly appreciated seeing all of my efforts pay off.” Having part of the financial burden of paying for college alleviated helped him align his work ethic with his career path.

Always having a business mindset, Frey knew a degree in management would provide a broad spectrum of career opportunities. “I felt having a degree in management was the perfect way to build a valuable foundation that would provide me with a wide range of career options.” He is definitely on the right path.

Frey is working for General Electric and participating in a two-year corporate finance development program. In his current role in financial planning and analysis for renewable energy headquarters, his team manages a $625 million global budget for the wind and solar business.

As a recent graduate, he tries to stay as involved with current students through Krannert and the social media. Frey mentors students and provides advice about GE’s Financial Management Program and extracurricular activities at Purdue.

Not only does he give back with his time and knowledge, Frey knows first-hand the importance of giving to scholarships. “Scholarships are a great way to not only reward students, but provide them opportunities that would otherwise be impossible without funding. Scholarships provide dreams to so many students.”

Paying it forward is more than just a movie or catch phrase for Frey – it is a passion. He believes students dedicated to their education should receive every opportunity that will propel their careers. “It may sound ambitious, but it’s why I am passionate about giving back.”

“There are so many ways for students to give back.” As Frey talks to current students, he shares how any type of gift will make a difference in someone’s life and encourages them to find their passion and give. “I just happen to be passionate about helping other students build the foundation that is essential for educational and professional growth.”

Providing educational opportunities is extremely important and can change someone’s life forever. Students of today are the leaders of tomorrow.
