Office of Future Engineers Celebrates 5 Year Anniversary | September 2016

On Friday, September 16, 2016, the Office of Future Engineers (OFE), the main recruitment division for Purdue Engineering undergraduate students, will be celebrating their 5th anniversary.

This eccentric and passionate staff is dedicated every day to ensuring that every prospective student and their family that visits or contacts Purdue Engineering has a unique and memorable experience. "We know recruiting the best students to Purdue Engineering takes a village. We want to thank all of our Purdue colleagues, friends, and fellow recruiters for all of their support throughout the years," David Bowker, Director, OFE.

Since 2010, this team has been involved in an average of over 350 events per year meeting with nearly 30,000 people. While remaining busy their efforts have paid off as applications to the College of Engineering have increased from 9,500 to near 19,000 and the number of students accepting their admissions offers have increased from 1,700 to over 2,100 in just 5 years.

OFE, which became an official office in December 2011, has its roots in David Bowker, Director; and Amy Glenn, Associate Director. Both Bowker and Glenn worked with OFE before it was an officially named unit - it was previously the Office of Recruitment housed within the Department of Freshman Engineering. They have both witnessed and been involved in administrative and institutional shifts that focus more on the best fit for the students.

In 2014, the staff doubled in size after on-boarding Heather Coar, Assistant Director of Communications; and Lindsay Elias, Office Manager. Rounding out the team, is Aurie Swartz, Assistant Director, hired in 2015. The office is also supported by one graduate student, Jennifer Pouplin, as well as an incredible group of twenty current students and interns who help with daily operations, and marketing and communications for the office. The Purdue Student Engineering Foundation (PSEF) is also available to provide invaluable support in our daily information sessions and connects with prospective students and families.

The Office of Future Engineers focuses on student outcomes. Director David Bowker and his growing team have changed the traditional college pitch into a focus on finding the right academic fit for each student. Robust websites, fresh marketing pitches, and social media campaigns have created a multifaceted, highly competitive recruitment landscape. However, the team is firmly rooted in the belief that nothing beats the personal connection that helps draw students to the College of Engineering at Purdue.
