Student Life

There is life outside of engineering academics. In fact our students are some of the most active on campus, involved in everything from intercollegiate athletics to Purdue bands and musical organizations; intramural sports to Greek life; political activism to community volunteering, you name it we have it! You can choose from over 1,000 student organizations, including a variety of Engineering Focused Student Organizations, which can be an excellent way to meet friends who share similar interests. The social, learning, leadership, and entertainment opportunities enable you to carve your own niche and further define yourself and, of course, have fun!

Purdue Engineering also takes pride in our long history of diversity. Purdue is perennially a top five institution for granting undergraduate engineering degrees to women, thanks to our Women in Engineering Program. In fact, 22% of our engineering students are women, and the Society of Women Engineers at Purdue, founded in 1968, is the oldest and largest chapter in the nation.

Purdue is also a leader among Big 10 Universities in the total number of minority students graduating with B.S. degrees in engineering. The Minority Engineering Program helps make it happen through a variety of programs and supporting student organizations such as: SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers), MESA (Mexican Engineering Student Association), AISES (American Indian Science and Engineering Society), and NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), which was founded at Purdue back in the 1970's by five young men and is now a global organization.

In addition to all of the great organizations and programs you can be a part of, Purdue hosts many speakers, concerts, comedians, and plays throughout the year.
