Our Purdue professor emeritus of wildlife ecology <a href=\"https:\/\/ag.purdue.edu\/department\/fnr\/directory.html#\/jdunning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barny Dunning<\/a> in this interview for CBS4 Indianapolis titled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/cbs4indy.com\/weather\/how-to-attract-hummingbirds-during-peak-migration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How to attract hummingbirds during peak migration<\/a>,&#8221; shares how planting a variety of plants that bloom will help draw them in along with a simple hummingbird mixture.<\/p>\n<p>The ruby-throated hummingbird is the only species of hummingbird that nests in the Hoosier state. These colorful visitors are migratory and arrive from their wintering grounds around mid-April.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/fnr\/extension\/contact-us\/directory\/brian-j-macgowan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Brian MacGowan<\/a> has a publication titled <a title=\"Attracting Hummingbirds to Your Yard\" href=\"https:\/\/edustore.purdue.edu\/fnr-249-w.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Attracting Hummingbirds to Your Yard<\/a> that is a great resource to share along with this video showing how to prepare your hummingbird feeders and how to find out when they will be migrating to your area. <a title=\"Hummingbird spring migration map\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hummingbirdcentral.com\/hummingbird-migration-spring-2025-map.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hummingbird Central<\/a> also tracks spring and fall migrations.
