The DNR relies on Hoosier outdoor enthusiasts from across the state to report the number of hens and poults they see from July 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0to August 31<sup>st<\/sup>. This helps them calculate a Productive Index (number of poults per hen; figure 1) for counties across the state. Does this sound like something you are interested in? Here are four simple steps to be involved!<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.in.gov\/dnr\/fish-and-wildlife\/wildlife-resources\/animals\/wild-turkey\/turkey-brood-reporting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Register<\/a>\u00a0for the turkey brood reporting system.<\/li>\n<li>Spend time outdoors from July 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0to August 31<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/li>\n<li>Count the number of hens and poults you see while spending time outdoors (figure 2).<\/li>\n<li>Report the number of hens and poults on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.in.gov\/dnr\/fish-and-wildlife\/wildlife-resources\/animals\/wild-turkey\/turkey-brood-reporting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DNR\u2019s online portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Help With Wild Turkey Populations\" width=\"670\" height=\"377\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JI6dYwfrvkA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>DNR biologists can\u2019t collect brood observations across the state alone. In order to reach the goal of 3,000 observations this year, they need our help! If you\u2019re interested in sharing your turkey brood observations with DNR, visit on.IN.gov\/turkeybrood and register after June 10. Record observations any time from July 1 to August 31. Recording observations takes less than 5 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The DNR appreciates your help to document turkey broods around the state.
