My students come from earth sciences, biology, environmental science, forestry, and beyond, and I see that diversity as a strength. My goal is to help them think like interdisciplinary scientists—comfortable moving between geochemistry, ecology, data science, and field observation—and to see how a single tool, like an isotope, can illuminate questions from insect migration to ancient extinctions.

I believe students learn best by doing. Across my courses and summer schools, I emphasize hands-on work with real data, reproducible and open analytical workflows, and the quantitative and computational skills that modern environmental science demands. Whether in a 300-student introductory course or a two-week field-based summer camp, I aim to make rigorous, data-driven science approachable and to show students that they are capable of original discovery. Mentoring undergraduate researchers in the lab is a central part of this philosophy—many of my trainees have published their work and gone on to graduate study and successful careers.

Above all, I want students to leave my courses curious, quantitatively confident, and aware that the natural world is a deeply interconnected system worth protecting.

Courses taught

Purdue University

FNR 59800 — Isotopes in Natural Resources (graduate, 2026)

University of Ottawa

GEO 4301 / 5191 — The Carbon Cycle (2020, 2022)

GEO 4301 / 5144 — Isotope Geochemistry (2019, 2021, 2024)

GEO 3742 — Introduction to Hydrogeology (2018, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2025)

EVS 1501 — Introduction aux Sciences Environnementales (2018, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2025)

EVS 1101 — Introduction to Environmental Sciences (300+ students; 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023)

Summer schools and short courses

ESS 2019 Engineering Summer School, INP Toulouse, France — developed and co-taught a 14-day “Isotope Biogeochemistry” summer camp (2019)

GEO 6474, University of Utah — lecture and lab at the SPATIAL “Isotopes in Biogeochemistry & Ecology” Summer Camp (2016–2023), and repeated invited instructor on Strontium Isoscapes (2016–2024)

Isotope Ecology Summer School instructor, INP Toulouse, France (2019)

["post-137","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
