Are you taking any one of these courses for Spring 2014 and think you might need a little academic boost: BIOL 110, BIOL 111, BIOL 204, CHM 112, CHM 115, CHM 116, CS 159, ME 200, MA 153, MA 158, MA 161, MA 162, MGMT 200, MGMT 201, or PHYS 172? Visit Purdue’s excellent Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions! These are peer-led group meetings that review content covered in a given week’s lecture in fun and interesting ways.
Weekly study session and peer leader office hours are available at http://www.purdue.edu/si > Schedule Tab. The schedule and a handy map of the study session locations are also available on your smartphone via the new Boilerguide App, www.purdue.edu/boilerguide. You can also use the app to download session times directly into your mobile calendar for easy reminding.
Will SI be useful for you? Well, the SI Coordinator sums it up best:
Last semester, 95% of the students who attended eight or more study sessions earned a C or better. Of that same group, 76% earned a B or better, and 46% earned an A.
In other words, go to SI early and often for best results and a terrific semester!
Students can add or modify courses all this week (Jan. 13 – Jan. 20) through MyPurdue. No advisor signature is required, but advisors are happy to field any questions you might have about course changes!
Students can drop courses through MyPurdue from Jan. 13 – Jan. 27. Courses are not recorded as ever being registered. Please note that students get 2 weeks to drop a class through MyPurdue, but only 1 week to add or modify it.
Students who would like to audit a class have until Jan. 28 to turn in an Audit Form (available in HOVDE 45). The form will need to be signed by the professor and then returned to the Registrar in HOVDE 45. Auditing a class means that a student just observes the class, but does not participate or earn any grade. Students who are nervous about a required course may sometimes audit it the semester before they intend to register for it.
After Jan. 20 and Jan. 27, respectively, students can still add or drop courses, but advisor (and later, instructor) signatures must be obtained. To view all of the Add/Drop Deadlines, consult the Registrar’s Calendars web page and select “Spring 2014.”
As part of a University plan to bring advising closer to the students, two of our esteemed Exploratory Studies advisors will be available to chat with their assigned students on these days:
- Beginning January 13th, Chris Greggila will hold office hours on Mondays from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. in Meredith Hall, room 178N.
- Beginning January 15th, Scott Vana will hold office hours on Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in Meredith Hall, room 178N.
Meredith Hall room 178N is located near the front desk. Scott’s and Chris’s students should make an appointment by calling (765) 494-0843. Please do NOT use the online appointment calendar to meet with them at Meredith Hall.
The Center for Pre-Professional Advising will also have advisors available to talk to any student on Thursdays, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in Meredith Hall 178N. No appointments are needed – walk on in!
