003789-2017 - Assistant/Associate/Full Clinical Professor 

The Purdue Transdisciplinary Studies in Technology (TST) program is actively seeking applications at all ranks for tenure track and clinical faculty positions. Applicants should have a passion for innovative, transformational education, a desire to teach on the cutting edge of classroom methodologies, and a commitment to holistic learning. Transdisciplinary professors are sought to serve and lead by contributing to:

  • Competency-based educational experiences that span across STEM and Humanities/Liberal Arts disciplines
  • The facilitation of highly diverse education teams
  • Student growth and development through rich mentoring relationships
  • Scholarly research that crosses traditional ‘single silo’ discipline boundaries

Candidates should have a background that shows diversity of thought, discipline, and practice with a wide variety of subject matters and philosophies.

The TST Program

The transdisciplinary Studies in Technology program blends fields like humanities and business with technology-focused disciplines such as computing, computer graphics, engineering technology and innovation. The TST program focus on hands-on, team-based projects, individualized learning plans, competency-based approaches, portfolio-based assessment, and lifelong learning skills.

Essential Duties

The faculty we are seeking excel at:

1)      Developing and instructing transdisciplinary courses with a team of faculty

  • Collaboratively developing and creating innovative curriculum and new course syllabi for transdisciplinary courses
  • Leveraging mastery in one or more disciplines toward novel transdisciplinary contributions
  • Team-teaching in creative learning environments
  • Leading and collaborating in teaching with new educational approaches
  • Supervising laboratory and/or artistic facilities, TA’s, and students in their learning environments
  • Engaging in program review and revision and assessment of curricula

2)      Facilitating competency-Based Focused Education

  • Advancing transdisciplinary education using team defined competencies
  • Developing and implementing transdisciplinary teaming best practices
  • Advising and mentoring students on developing plans of learning and achieving competency requirements
  • Mentoring students on committees, senior projects, independent studies, and coursework
  • Developing of competency assessment frameworks and best practices

3)      Service and Administration

  • Participating in administrative responsibilities (e.g. program direction, high-level curriculum design, recruitment, admissions, etc.)
  • Providing outreach to the community at large as a representative of the program and department
  • Taking active roles in committees and activities devoted to educational development and policy
  • Communicating with disciplinary stakeholders across campus and beyond

4)      Developing and leading cutting-edge research that touches on all aspects of the TST mission, and actively working to disseminate the results of that research in all relevant forums.

Essential Qualifications


  • A master of Arts, Master of Education, Master of Science, or equivalent degree in a field in one or more fields or disciplines recognized by the university for clinical faculty and a PhD required for tenure track faculty
  • Evidence of a history of original work demonstrating mastery of one or more fields (such as publications, patents, products, policies, or other artifacts that demonstrate mastery)
  • Experience with some aspect of transdisciplinary or transdisciplinary study, and using multi-, inter, cross- and transdisciplinary education methodologies
  • Ability to facilitate dialogue and find consensus within a diverse group of stakeholders in a professional and collegial manner


  • A PhD (required for tenure track faculty) or equivalent in one or more fields or disciplines recognized by the university
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with systemic thinking and analysis that provide cross-cutting foundations and tools for transdisciplinary education methodology
  • Experience with developing transdisciplinary programs, courses, and methodologies and/or experience teaching within a transdisciplinary course
  • Experience with developing competency-based programs, courses, and methodologies and/or experience teaching within a competency-based program
  • Formal experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in educational settings
