Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Head of the Department of Anthropology at Purdue University.  The position will start on July 1, 2018. 

Applicants must have scholarly credentials commensurate with the rank of full professor.  The field of specialization is open.  The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of scholarship, a demonstrated commitment to a holistic anthropological approach, evidence of effective leadership in an academic setting, and a record of excellent teaching.  We seek applicants with a commitment to promoting excellence in discovery and learning; the willingness to promote the department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion; and an interest in innovative approaches to fund raising.

Duties:  Stewardship of the programmatic and intellectual agendas of the Department of Anthropology; management of department resources; recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students; guidance of faculty working toward tenure and promotion; advocacy on behalf of the department’s mission; and representation of the department to administrative offices and on the Council of Department Heads.  The Head will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching.
