Beth Stanley moved several times during her childhood, being in a military family that was the norm. She always thought of Purdue as home though. The mass communication<\/a> major (BS \u201916) dreamed of working in television and wanted to add business classes to her plan of study to complement her dream. After speaking to her advisor, a management minor was challenge to fit in her schedule, but the Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program<\/a> offered flexibility with courses counting towards her major and certificate requirements.<\/p>\n

The Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program teaches students in all academic majors how to turn their innovative ideas into action. Through courses and experiential programs, students learn how to put their creativity to work in the development of products, technologies and organizations that create value in society.<\/p>\n

\u201cI spent a lot of my time in the radio and television studios on campus,\u201d Stanley said. \u201cI was part of the group that created Boiler TV, Purdue\u2019s television station. It was helpful having an entrepreneurial skillset to apply to the creation of the station. Delegating, managing and working with people from all backgrounds were challenges I was able to handle because of the certificate in entrepreneurship.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stanley recalls the courses and instructors being the most influential pieces in pursuing the certificate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest highlight of the program are the classes. As a student you are able to interact with people from different majors and backgrounds,\u201d Stanley said. \u201cThe required hands on approach and teamwork were all beneficial. I also appreciate how the staff were tuned into what the students were doing. The instructors care that you are learning and want you to use the material to your best ability.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking to diversify her work experience, Stanley accepted a Teaching Assistant (TA) position in ENTR 31000 with instructor Stroh Brann.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing a TA was a great opportunity,\u201d she said. \u201cI enjoyed taking ENTR 31000 and wanted to stay involved while gaining work experience outside of television. It was nice to see the other side of the course, help students and provide advice as needed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stanley is currently pursuing her master\u2019s degree at Royal Holloway University of London.<\/p>\n

\u201cGraduate school has offered amazing opportunities,\u201d she added. \u201cI am studying television and have had hands on experiences working on television shows at the BBC.\u201d<\/p>\n

After graduating with her masters, Stanley plans to gain work experience then start her own production company, an addition to her dream she didn\u2019t consider until completing the Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
