Presented by Purdue University\u2019s Department of Agricultural Sciences Education and Communication, the curriculum includes 15 PowerPoint presentations with instructor notes, case studies, a glossary and student activity sheets.\u00a0 The materials are available for free access at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asec.purdue.edu\/tractor\/index.html\"><strong>www.agsafety4youth.info<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">School\nclosures due to the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in agricultural educators across\nthe country adapting to online instruction and searching for appropriate\nteaching materials.&nbsp; This curriculum can\nprovide teachers a pre-packaged set of agricultural safety lessons that are\nwell-suited to online instruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Likewise, youth\nwho live on family farms will likely be spending more time working on the farm\nwith this unexpected break from school, possibly placing them at risk of injury.&nbsp; Or, farm owners may be considering hiring\nneighborhood youth to assist with farm tasks.&nbsp;\nThe Gearing Up materials can be used to help familiarize youth family\nmembers or employees with farm workplace safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Program\nLeader\u2019s Curriculum Includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Suggested teaching aids to be assembled prior to teaching the lessons.<\/li><li>A list of the core competencies that each student should master.<\/li><li>Lesson content outlines that include supplemental background information.<\/li><li>Activity worksheets designed for use during classroom discussion.<\/li><li>Selected review questions.<\/li><li>15 interactive and engaging PowerPoint presentations.<\/li><li>Hands-on testing procedures<\/li><li>A collection of more than 75 farm injury case studies that can be used for classroom discussion.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lessons\ninclude:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>General Farm and Ranch Safety Overview<\/li><li>Tractor Component Basics<\/li><li>Tractor Pre-Operational Procedures<\/li><li>Tractor Operation Basics<\/li><li>Tractor-Powered Implements<\/li><li>Self-Propelled Agricultural Equipment<\/li><li>Operating Agricultural Equipment on Public Roads<\/li><li>Repairing Agricultural Equipment<\/li><li>ATV &amp; Utility Vehicle Safety Operation<\/li><li>Skid Steer Loader, Telehandler and Forklift Operation<\/li><li>Confined Spaces in Agriculture<\/li><li>Grain Storage and Handling Facilities<\/li><li>Working with Animals<em> (still in development)<\/em><\/li><li>General Farm and Ranch Hazards<\/li><li>First-Aid &amp; Emergency Response<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NOTE:\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agsafety4youth.info\"><strong>www.agsafety4youth.info<\/strong><\/a> website is still under development.\u00a0 The lesson PowerPoints, instructor notes, student activity pages, and lesson competencies are all currently available for your use.\u00a0 Supplemental materials are being added to the site daily.
