RE:           Cisco IronPort

Colleagues,

At 5 p.m. today (Thursday, June 29, 2017) we will be changing from Sophos PureMessage to Cisco IronPort to handle our email scanning needs. The net effect should be much improved detection and quarantining of spam, phishing and other undesirable email messages. Those testing the new system have been impressed with how effective it is and you should find it beneficial as well.

Overall, users will notice three major changes:

* Less spam in their inboxes

* A daily quarantine digest email that looks slightly different than the previous PureMessage message. (The new digest will have the subject line Spam Quarantine Notification).

* A much faster and usable quarantine interface to release legitimate messages and to add people to their safelist so email from them is not quarantined in the future.

Because the overall quality of IronPort is much higher, more spam will be caught. This may include messages that staff intended to receive.

It is imperative that we remind staff to review their quarantine digests on a daily basis to ensure that they are receiving all of the messages they desire. We are going to need your help to encourage this behavior.
