I am writing to inform you that Dean Craig Svensson has notified me and communicated to the College of Pharmacy and the College of Science that he plans to step down from his deanship at the end of this academic year, effective July 1, 2017, and transition to fulltime faculty duties in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology. I deeply appreciate all that Craig has done for Purdue as dean of the College of Pharmacy for 10 years. Under his leadership, the college has made significant advances including a major revision of the undergraduate and professional program curricula, nearly doubling external grants and contracts, and creating the internationally recognized Center for Medication Safety Advancement. I am confident that the talented faculty and staff within the College of Pharmacy will continue the work at the highest level of excellence that Craig has always demonstrated.

As you know, in addition to his leadership of the College of Pharmacy, Craig recently began serving as interim dean of the College of Science. I appreciate the teamwork and support shown during this transition period by the associate deans, department heads and administrative leadership within the College of Science.

In the fall semester, I will announce plans to begin national searches to fill the critically important dean positions in the College of Science and the College of Pharmacy. Please join me in thanking Craig Svensson for his decade-long service as dean of the College of Pharmacy and, since July, as interim dean of the College of Science. I look forward to working with him for another year.
