Re: Comprehensive review of system-wide policies
The Executive Policy Review Group (EPRG) endorsed a plan to conduct a comprehensive review of all existing system-wide policies at its April meeting. A moratorium on approval of any new policies or revisions to existing policies is in place during the process, which is expected to be completed by the end of August.
The goal of the review is to scrutinize closely all system-wide policies with a view to determining whether they are reasonable, internally consistent, and necessary in the first place— an objective that President Daniels identified shortly after his arrival. The review project team will focus on policy language that is inconsistent, ambiguous or unnecessary and seek to determine whether policies need to be revised or rescinded. This exercise will be an important step toward ensuring that our policies align well with and promote Purdue’s mission and its relationships with stakeholders.
Offices identified as being responsible for a policy will be asked to conduct the initial review using an online needs assessment. Each responsible office and corresponding responsible executive will receive from the University Policy Office by May 1 a list of policies to be reviewed, along with a hyperlink to the needs assessment. A contact name also will be provided to each office for any questions about the process. The deadline to complete the needs assessments will vary based on the total number of policies each responsible office has to review.
Upon completion of the review, a timeline for making proposed revisions will be set. The procedures for revising policies, which includes obtaining stakeholder feedback and approval from the EPRG, will be followed in an accelerated fashion in order to implement the policy changes or rescissions the review team has recommended.
