Public Service

Community service is something that the Purdue Fire Department is actively involved with. Public service extends far beyond responding to emergencies. We believe that through effective fire prevention & public education programs, to community interaction & campus involvement, lives truly can be saved. Each year, the men and women of the Purdue University Fire Department outreach to the Purdue community in many different ways.

Community outreach programs provided by the Purdue Fire Department include:

  • Year-round free blood-pressure screening to the public.

  • Organized tours of the Purdue Fire Station for children, adults and groups.

  • Fire prevention and safety lectures for the Purdue students, faculty and staff.

  • First-aid safety lectures for the Purdue students, faculty and staff.

  • Fire extinguisher training to students, faculty and staff.

  • Early childhood fire-safety classes for the Purdue Childcare facilities.

  • Fire drills and life safety inspections.

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation with Automated External Defibrillator training for faculty, staff & special groups.

  • Stop The Bleed Training and Certification.
  • Campus partners with the Office of the Dean of Students & Residential Life.

  • Work with Greek Life organizations.
  • Fire and life safety training for University Residences RA's.
  • Involvement with Boiler Gold Rush to educate the freshmen on campus fire safety.

  • Participating in Campus Safety Day and Career Day.

  • Participating in the Tippecanoe County Fire Association.

  • Participating in Indiana Department of Homeland Security District 4 events.

  • CIT - Crisis Intervention Team.

  • Shop with a Firefighter program.
  • On-going pre-fire planning for all Purdue University buildings.

  • Providing additional emergency medical service coverage for all home Purdue football games, several Big Ten athletic sporting events, Elliott Music Hall events, Grand Prix, 4 th of July fireworks and other special events.

  • Residence Hall Faculty-Fellows.

  • Assisting students and faculty with research projects.

  • Working closely with other local fire departments, local schools and extended regional Purdue campuses.
