Discovery Lecture Series - Fred Pearce

The Purdue Water Community is pleased to welcome the Discovery Lecture Series Speaker Fred Pearce to campus on February 27, 2014 at 7:00 p.n. in Fowler Hall. The event is open to the public and there will be a book signing following the lecture. His lecture is titled Panic or Peak? As world population soars, we are running short of even our most basic needs like water and land to grow food. Will we perish of will peak population save us?
Fred Pearce is a freelance author and journalist. A former news editor of the UK-based New Scientist magazine, Fred Pearce has been its environment consultant since 1992, reporting from 83 countries. He also writes regularly for Yale e360 web site in the U.S., and the Guardian and other newspapers in the UK. Recent commissions included the Washington Post, and a study on water grabbers for National Geographic, for which he won an honorable mention at the Society for Environmental Journalists.
Pearce won a lifetime achievement award for his journalism from the Association of British Science Writers in 2011 and was voted UK Environment Journalist of the Year in 2001. His recent books include The Land Grabbers, Confessions of an Eco Sinner, and When the Rivers Run Dry, which was listed among the all-time Top 50 Sustainability Books by the University of Cambridge’s Programme for Sustainable Leadership.
