“Building Ecosystem for Fostering Cutting-Edge Lifescience/Healthcare Innovation”

In this seminar, the speaker will talk about emerging lifescience/healthcare innovation ecosystem and different pillars of this ecosystem at Life Science Cluster in Bangalore. The seminar will have a broader overview of this ecosystem, which has thriving lifescience research environment, its partnership with govt. funding agencies, connections with industry and some exciting biotech start-ups.

C-CAMP, a member of Banglaore Life Science Cluster, which also includes NCBS and inStem, has created and fostered an entrepreneur-friendly culture in and around academic environment through its various activities which spans facilitating early stage discoveries made in the lab to very early stage ideas to proof-of concept stage and validation studies for commercialization. C-CAMP not only funds but also nurtures these start-ups with scientific and business mentorship. C-CAMP's involvement has further expanded C-CAMP’s entrepreneurial activities to providing some of these start-ups access to functional laboratory along with high-end technology platforms, through Bio-incubation. For a biotech start-up, along with seed funding, access to such ready to use scientific infrastructure in a nurturing academic environment gives these young entrepreneurs the kick start they need to propel them towards market and commercialization. Today, C-CAMP has funded and mentored more than 100 life science start-ups/spin-offs, and leveraging the technology platforms and scientific expertise on campus. In addition, C-CAMP has been working with around 200 organizations, both academic and industry, through its technology platforms and entrepreneurship efforts. C-CAMP has also started the Early Translation Accelerator program which focuses on making early stage discoveries made in the lab more industry ready and takes them closer to the market through a possible license or spin-off.

Dr. Saiyed received his PhD from Max-Planck Institute for Brain Research Germany, and went on for his postdoctoral training at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF).  During that time, he also went through management training.  Afterwards he consulted for many biotech firms in the United States.  Dr. Saiyed is an Adjunct Faculty at Amrita Institute-School of Biotechnology.
