Meet Our Innovation Leads

Three Purdue faculty members have accepted appointments as “Innovation Leads” for i-GSDI in their respective fields. Innovation Leads will dedicate strategic and collaborative efforts to support i-GSDI’s vision of capitalizing on Purdue’s rich multidisciplinary resources as we lead the way to solutions for security and defense research challenges facing the nation and world.

Peter Bermel – Trusted Microelectronics

Dr. Peter Bermel is an associate professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research focuses on improving the performance of photovoltaic, thermophotovoltaic, and nonlinear systems using the principles of nanophotonics. Key enabling techniques for his work include electromagnetic and electronic theory, modeling, simulation, fabrication, and characterization.

Nathan Hartman – Digital Transformation

Dr. Nathan Hartman is the Dauch Family Professor of Advanced Manufacturing and Department Head of the Department of Computer Graphics Technology, and Director of the Purdue University Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Center. Dr. Hartman is also Co-Executive Director of the Indiana Next-generation Manufacturing Competitiveness Center (IN-MaC).

Jonathan Poggie – Hypersonics

Dr. Jonathan Poggie is a Professor of Aeronautics & Astronautics. He served as Research Aerospace Engineer, Senior Aerospace Engineer, Team Leader and Branch Technical Advisor at AFRL, US Air Force Research Laboratory, before joining Purdue’s faculty.
